Austin-Based Bands at ACL Weekend Two

As Austin City Limits heads into Weekend Two, ORANGE Magazine takes a closer look at more bands with roots in Austin.

The Live Music Capital of the World has produced a wide variety of artists, including 80s-like band, Annabelle Chairlegs, R&B trio, The Bishops and electronic group, MISSIO. Remember to come early and jam out to the bands that made ACL what it is.

Annabelle Chairlegs

Stage: Miller Lite on Oct. 13, 11:45-12:30 p.m.

Lindsey Mackin’s 80s-style vocals bring back the new wave feeling of bands like The Go-Go’s and The B-52’s. Since their debut album, “Watermelon Summer,” in 2015, they have played all around Austin, as well as in New York and New Orleans.

Their psychedelic vibe combined with the upbeat jam of guitars and Mackin’s unique, high vocals, make for a group you can’t help but rock out with. Their stage presence and image add on to their outstanding music, making for a unique Austin-based band. Listen now.

The Bishops

Stage: Tito’s Handmade Vodka on Oct. 13, 12:30-1:15 p.m.

This trio kept it in the family as lead vocalist, Cara Bishop, is joined by two brothers, Troy and Luv. The Bishops have quickly gained popularity since the release of their first single, “Blood Ring,” in 2016. They have frequented venues around Austin, including The Parish, Barracuda and Mohawk.

Their sound is hard to define, but is influenced by R&B, pop and rap in their songs. Their 3 songs have a tinge of synth sounds throughout. Cara’s delicate vocals are joined by Luv’s rapping and Troy’s production to create a sound unlike any other group. Listen now.

MISSIO

Stage: Honda on Oct. 14, 12:15-1:00 p.m.

This duo hails from Austin with music described as electro-trap. Their newest album, “Loner,” came out in May. They have recently played festivals such as Lollapalooza, Music Midtown, Ohana Festival and now for the first time, ACL.

Since first playing at SXSW in 2015, they have gone to tour around the country and signed with RCA Records. Their hardcore, electronic feel is bound to keep the crowd going, along with their quirky covers of songs like  “West Coast” by Lana Del Rey. Listen now.
